After record floods, keep watch for signs of landslides

Below the U.S. 2 trestle, state crews cleared massive logs and other woody debris jammed in the Snohomish River.

Why are Snohomish County rivers susceptible to flooding?

The short answer: Geography. Our proximity to Puget Sound and the mountains makes our rivers sensitive to big storms.

‘As the water recedes,’ Snohomish County grapples with record flood

County Executive Dave Somers signed the order Wednesday, as communities remained flooded at the mouth of the Stillaguamish River.

Over a dozen rescues in Snohomish County after record flooding on Stilly

Meanwhile, the Snohomish River remained dangerously high near Snohomish, where one boater survived a dramatic rescue.

Stillaguamish River flood breaks record after 6 inches of rain

The Stilly far exceeded its forecasted level in Arlington, putting residents downstream on alert. And more flooding is in store on the Snohomish.

Forecast holds: Flooding to hit Tuesday in Gold Bar, Monroe, Snohomish

The Snohomish River was expected to crest “just below” major flood stage late Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service.

Latest forecast: Snohomish County could see ‘moderate to major flooding’

Meteorologists predict rainfall could reach up to 4 inches through Tuesday, with the Snohomish River in danger of cresting.
