Second person charged in assault on teen

EVERETT — Prosecutors have filed felony assault charges against a second person suspected of injuring a teenager in Lake Stevens late last month.

Alexander Lamoureux, 19, remained behind bars on $50,000 bail. He pleaded not guilty last week to first- and second-degree assault.

Lamoureux is accused of striking a 17-year-old with his vehicle and stabbing the boy during the April 29 altercation.

Prosecutors also have accused a 17-year-old girl of stabbing the victim. Leigha Sweet is charged as an adult with first-degree assault. She has pleaded not guilty.

Court documents say that both defendants admitted that the victim was stabbed multiple times, but they pointed the finger at each other.

Sweet and Lamoureux were dating at the time of the incident, according to court papers. The injured boy reportedly had dated Sweet in the past.

He and two friends were walking together when they spotted a Honda Accord speeding toward them, Snohomish County deputy prosecutor Paul Stern wrote.

The boy’s friends dodged the vehicle, and he ran onto the grass. The car, reportedly driven by Lamoureux, continued to pursue the running boy and he was struck.

Witnesses said Lamoureux and Sweet got out of the Honda and attacked the teen, punching him multiple times before driving off.

Paramedics found the boy with a stab wound to the back. Witnesses told police that Sweet had a small knife in her hand when she was swinging at the teen, Stern wrote.

Sweet’s father arrived at the scene and told police that the injured boy had assaulted his daughter in the past.

He called his daughter and told police that he would help her surrender. He also allegedly told officers, “the knife is at home,” Stern wrote.

Sweet, who was arrested, initially denied that Lamoureux struck the boy with his car. She later said that the Honda “barely touched him.” She told police that it was Lamoureux who stabbed the boy. She admitted that they threw the knife away as they drove off, Stern wrote.

Lamoureux allegedly spoke with a detective over the phone later that day. He told the officer that he pulled up near the injured boy “really fast,” but denied hitting him with his car. He said the 17-year-old confronted him so he hit him. Sweet stabbed the teen, Lamoureux said.

Lamoureux, of Everett, surrendered a few days later, shortly after Lake Stevens detectives issued a press release, asking for the public’s help to locate him.
