5 hospitalized after head-on collision in Monroe

MONROE — Five people were taken to hospitals Sunday night after a head-on crash on the Highway 522 off-ramp leading to U.S. 2 in Monroe.

Two were seriously injured.

The crash occurred around 7:30 p.m., according to the Monroe Police Department.

Police believe an eastbound car driven by a Snohomish girl, 17, crossed the centerline on Highway 522 where it joins U.S. 2 and collided with a westbound car driven by a Seattle woman, 38. In the car were her sister, 34, brother-in-law, 36, and 15-month-old niece.

The Snohomish girl was taken to Providence Regional Medical Center Everett. She suffered serious injuries, police said.

The driver of the other car and her sister were treated for minor injuries at EvergreenHealth Monroe hospital. The infant did not appear to be injured but was given a medical evaluation at the hospital, according to police.

The driver’s brother-in-law was taken to the Monroe hospital before being transferred to Providence in Everett. His injuries were described as serious.
