EVERETT — Aidan McClanahan, the 6-year-old who drowned near the Big Four Ice Caves on Sunday, attended kindergarten at Silver Lake Elementary, officials said Tuesday.

“The counselors rallied to help support classmates and friends and the staff who knew him,” Everett schools spokeswoman Mary Waggoner said. “And our hearts and thoughts are with his family.”

An online fundraiser for funeral expenses also was set up at www.gofundme.com/228fc98. More than $6,000 had been donated as of Tuesday afternoon.

The boy’s body was recovered late Sunday from the South Fork Stillaguamish River. The ice caves trail remains open.
