TACOMA — Tacoma’s ethics board will discuss a complaint filed against Mayor Marilyn Strickland for her appearance in a promotional video for a proposed methanol plant at the Port of Tacoma.

The News Tribune reported the board will review the matter Monday.

Resident Claudia Riedener had filed the complaint alleging Strickland gave preferential treatment to Northwest Innovation Works by appearing in the video. The Chinese company had planned to build the methanol facility but canceled the project this month.

In the video, Strickland says the project will bring jobs to Tacoma while reducing China’s greenhouse gas emissions.

It was released after Strickland urged city officials to remain neutral about the project, because an environmental study of the facility was supposed to be impartial.

Strickland has said her appearance was a mistake.
