Sultan woman, 80, fatally shoots intruder who attacked husband

SULTAN — An 80-year-old Sultan woman fatally shot a much younger man Thursday evening after he reportedly broke into her home and stabbed her husband, the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office said.

The incident occurred about 8:30 p.m. at a home in the 13700 block of Woods Lake Road.

The woman called 911 and said that she’d shot someone who had broken in and assaulted her husband, 75, sheriff’s spokeswoman Shari Ireton said.

The woman’s husband was taken by helicopter to Harborview Regional Medical Center in Seattle for treatment of stab wounds.

The man who reportedly broke into the home, 25, of Gold Bar, died at the scene.

“At this time, detectives do not believe the suspect was known to the residents of the home and that this was an attempted home burglary,” Ireton said in a press release.

The woman was not injured. The same was true for the couple’s son, 45.

Woods Lake Road was closed between Florence Road and Old Owen Road while major crimes detectives investigated.
