Work begins on Lochsloy bridge over Pilchuck River

LAKE STEVENS — Work is set to begin on Glover’s Bridge over the Pilchuck River that will require the full closure of 64th Street NE east of Highway 92.

The road is scheduled for closure 8 a.m.-4 p.m. April 11-13, April 18-21 and April 25-28 while Stellar Corp. works on strengthening and piling at the bridge.

Bridge 581 is in line for a $4.5 million replacement. The 55-year-old, one-lane bridge connects a Lochsloy agricultural area off Highway 92. The bridge is prone to flash-flooding and has weight restrictions.

Access through the construction zone will be available to Polestar Farms. Otherwise the area will be closed to all other public access — including river access, parking and turnarounds.

The new bridge will remain a single-lane span. A new steel truss design will eliminate the need for intermediate support piers in the river and help to reduce debris accumulation under the bridge.

Work is expected to wrap up by fall. Federal grants are covering 80 percent of the Snohomish County project’s costs.
