MACHIAS — A Lake Stevens-area man has been released from the hospital after a serious accident involving a chain saw.
The man was taken via medical helicopter to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle on March 9. Medics were told he was limbing a tree on his property near Walsh Road, east of Lake Stevens, when he lost his footing.
“As he fell, the chain saw cut into his left leg, and his hand came down onto the chain as well,” said Perry Putnam, a battalion chief with Snohomish County Fire District 8 in Lake Stevens.
The man, described as being in his 50s, was critically injured. A friend who was working with him on the tree applied a makeshift tourniquet that helped stanch the bleeding, Putnam said. The friend also applied pressure to the wound.
