OK for semis to park near homes in Snohomish County

Bob Tate of Everett writes: “Puget Park Drive has two semi trailer trucks that park for 10 to 15 days a month out on the street. I assume there is some type of ordinance to prevent this from happening but it continues on weekly basis.”

This is in unincorporated Snohomish County, which does not have rules restricting where semi trailer trucks can park like some cities.

Snohomish County Sheriff’s Lt. Rodney Rochon responds: “There is no time frame limiting parking on the public right of way. That said, any vehicle parked on the public right of way must be currently licensed, legally parked (facing the right way, within 6 inches of the curb, etc.), cannot be obstructing fire hydrants or driveways, etc. Unlike municipalities, the county code and RCW do not place a timeline for legal parking. All vehicles must be parked in accordance with RCW 46.61.570.

“Specifically regarding commercial vehicles, they follow the same rules. The exception would be vehicles with hazardous materials on board; they are not allowed in residential areas per the fire code.”
