Water restored to Monroe homes after mid-day line break

MONROE — A water line broke around noon on Friday near Monroe High School.

About 30 houses west of the school on Tester Road were without water for about an hour and a half, said Pam Baker, the city spokeswoman.

Crews have repaired the break and restored water services.

The city’s water lines were designed to last 50 years but have been in the ground since the 1940s. In 2016, the City Council wants to increase revenue from utilities and make other changes so Monroe can pay for maintenance and upgrades, such as replacing pumps and water lines.
