EdCC instructor awarded medal by President Obama

Edmonds Community College part-time English instructor Lela Hilton was given the National Humanities Medal by President Barack Obama for her involvement as director of the Clemente Course. The Clemente Course aims to improve the lives of disadvantaged adults has brought free humanities education and enrichment to thousands of men and women. Hilton received the medal in the East Room of the White House on Sept. 10.

Everett’s Sierra Media founder graduates from SBA’s Emerging Leaders program

Daniel Cardenas of Sierra Media in Everett has been named as a 2015 Small Business Association Emerging Leaders graduate. The small business owner was one of 15 across the state of Washington to graduate from the Emerging Leaders program, a seven-month training initiative for local business on the brink of growth.

Bastyr University to celebrate past, future

Bastyr University will celebrate its history and look to its future at an event at 4 p.m. Friday in the Bastyr Chapel, 14500 Juanita Drive NE, Kenmore. The event will feature a panel discussion with the three living founders of Bastyr University as well as serve as an official welcome for Bastyr University president Charles “Mac” Powell, PhD. The event is free and open to the public.

Kenmore Camera’s Digital Expo coming to Lynnwood Convention Center

Kenmore Camera’s Digital Expo will be returning to the Lynnwood Convention Center Saturday and Sunday. The free photo show will feature deals on photography equipment, free seminars, and an appearance by wildlife and nature photographer Art Wolfe. Grant helps support EdCC’s on-campus farmers market

The Sustainable Agriculture Sammamish Valley student farm is launching an innovative farm-to-campus program that will be utilizing a HUB system for delivery, in collaboration with Edmonds Community College’s Horticulture department. A recently received grant of $13,000 will also help fund the new college’s on-campus weekly farmers market that opened this month and more.

Marysville Tulalip chamber celebrates opening of yoga studio

The Marysville Tulalip Chamber of Commerce celebrated a ribbon-cutting ceremony with Spark Hot Yoga on Oct. 29. The new business is located at 6608 64th St. NE, Suite A, in Marysville near Bartell Drugs at the intersection of 67th Avenue NE. The morning event featured networking and light refreshments.
