The inaugural Carleton Farms Brew Fest will shine a light on a number of local breweries and distilleries this weekend, and one brewery from nearly 500 miles away.
Cabinet Mountain Brewing Company, the only Montana brewery owned exclusively by women, will send its head brewer, Grant Golden, and three of its beers to western Washington for the Carleton Farms Brew Fest at Carleton Farms in Lake Stevens.
The connection between Carleton Farms and the small brewery from Libby, Montana, is Tracy Vincent, who is the event coordinator for the Carleton Farms Brew Fest. Vincent and her husband own a cabin in Montana and on a recent trip they visited the brewery and got to know owners Sarah Sorensen and Kristin Smith. When she heard about Carleton Farms’ idea to host a brew fest, Vincent reached out to Sorensen and Smith.
“I was kidding around with them that they should come to our brewfest,” Vincent said. “That’s how it happened. They’re doing a great job making amazing beers.”
Golden, who was an assistant brewer at Portland’s Lompoc Brewery before heading up Cabinet Mountain’s operation, will be driving out with his girlfriend and bringing three Cabinet Mountain Brewing Company beers with him: Yaak Attack IPA, Bad Medicine Smooth Dark Ale and Bullbucker ESB.
Cabinet Mountain will be pouring its beers Saturday only. The other breweries at the brewfest, Marysville’s At Large Brewing and 5 Rights Brewing, Everett’s Lazy Boy Brewing, and Arlington’s Whiskey Ridge, will be attending both days.
Also Saturday, the brewfest will feature spirits from three local distilleries: Mount Vernon’s Valley Shine Distillery, Arlington’s Bad Dog Distillery and Snohomish’s Skip Rock Distillery.
On Sunday, the brewfest will feature wine tastings from five Washington wineries.
The brewfest isn’t just about beer. There will also be family friendly fall-themed events, including a 5K and Kid’s Dash, corn maze, pumpkin cannon, pumpkin picking and more.
Proceeds from the brewfest will go to the Lake Stevens Community Food Bank.

The inaugural Carleton Farms Brewfest is noon to 6 p.m. Sept. 26 and 27. There will be a beer and spirits tasting Saturday and a beer and wine tasting Sunday.
