VANCOUVER, Wash. — The Vancouver City Council has voted to continue a moratorium on new or expanded crude oil facilities for another six months.
The Columbian reports that the council voted unanimously Monday to extend the ban for a second time. The ban was originally passed in September, and the most recent six-month extension passed in March is set to expire Sept. 2.
City documents show at least one more extension is likely after the new moratorium expires Feb. 17.
Assistant City Attorney Brent Boger said the city needs more time to examine what future regulations on oil terminals should look like.
