Marijuana-growing operation in Lynnwood raided again

LYNNWOOD — A large marijuana-growing operation, set up inside cargo shipping containers parked near an elementary school, has again been raided after complaints from neighbors, Lynnwood police said Thursday.

The operation, located in the 7400 block of 204th Street SW, was hit last year and more than 400 plants were seized. That bust resulted in felony charges for the growers. Trial is pending.

Earlier this summer, neighbors again began complaining about the pungent smell of growing pot. After obtaining a search warrant, officers checked back on the containers Wednesday. They discovered more than 250 marijuana plants, Lynnwood police Cmdr. Jim Nelson said.

The homeowner was arrested. As happened last year, the man asserted the plants were being grown for medical marijuana.

State law allows a single medical marijuana grower to have up to 15 marijuana plants. A group of medical marijuana growers may have up to 45 in a single location.

Police left 45 marijuana plants during both of the raids and seized the rest, Nelson said.

Police “would hope that even the most ardent medical and recreational marijuana advocates would support enforcement on a person who is operating so far outside of the laws they worked so hard to get into place,” Nelson said in a press release.
