In her sophomore season of 2014, Lexie Levin of Western Washington University enjoyed a record-setting year for the Vikings’ softball team.
Levin, a graduate of Everett High School, was the Great Northwest Athletic Conference Player of the Year after setting WWU records for home runs (10), runs batted in (47), total bases (103) and slugging percentage (.741). She also batted .424 with 59 hits in 139 at-bats.
She led the GNAC in slugging percentage and finished second in batting average, home runs and RBI.
A first baseman and utility player, Levin also had a fielding percentage of .987 with just two errors in 159 chances.
Other honors followed for Levin, who was a finalist for The Herald’s 2014 Woman of the Year in Sports award. After helping the Vikings to a final record of 30-14, including a 17-7 GNAC mark (WWU finished second in the league), Levin was named to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association Division II West Region All-Star team, becoming the first player in school history to be so honored.
After the latter award was announced, WWU coach Amy Suiter said Levin “had a great year for us. She … led us in almost every offensive category. She is a pleasure to coach, so very humble, and her team and coaching staff are so proud of her for this accomplishment.”
