LYNNWOOD — A new round of equipment testing is under way in preparation for the fall opening of the I-405 express toll lanes.
Starting May 26 and continuing for as long as 90 days, the Washington State Department of Transportation is conducting 24-hour testing of the cameras, signs and other equipment that read license plates and assign toll rates. No tolls will be charged during testing.
Messages on signs will feature different words and symbols and update every five minutes. During the testing phase, much of it might be gibberish. Additional testing will take place before the toll lanes launch this fall, replacing high-occupancy vehicle lanes on 17 miles between Lynnwood and Bellevue.
