A Seattle company that recycles industrial barrels has agreed to pay $30,000 to the state to settle a larger environmental penalty.

The Department of Ecology said Thursday that it fined Seattle Barrel Co. $80,000 in July 2014 for failing to probably handle and dispose of hazardous waste. It says the company has since corrected all of the violations.

The state says Seattle Barrel also agreed to train employees in properly managing hazardous waste and to conduct an independent audit of its compliance.

A company official said the violations were inadvertent and that it remained committed to comply with all environmental regulations.
