More than three dozen Snohomish County schools received the state Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction’s highest honor for 2014. There are 38 local schools among 401 across the state to earn Washington Achievement Awards.
Those receiving the recognition are the highest-performing schools in the state based on three years of academic data. That information is reported in the Washington Achievement Index, a unified state and federal system intended to differentiate among schools.
The schools are recognized for being top performers in six categories. Overall excellence is awarded to the top 5 percent of all Washington schools. The other honors are given in specific areas, such as “high progress,” reading growth, math growth, English language acquisition and extended graduation rate, which is only awarded to high and comprehensive schools.
Snohomish County schools receiving awards:
Arlington School District: Post Middle School (reading growth); Kent Prairie Elementary School (overall excellence, reading growth, math growth); Presidents Elementary School (math growth).
Edmonds School District: Lynnwood High School (English language acquisition); Mountlake Terrace High School (high progress); Challenge Elementary (overall excellence); Sherwood Elementary (math growth).
Everett School District: Henry M. Jackson High School (extended graduation rate); Eisenhower Middle School (English language acquisition); Cedar Wood Elementary (overall excellence, reading growth); Mill Creek Elementary (overall excellence, reading growth); View Ridge Elementary (English language acquisition).
Lake Stevens School District: Lake Stevens Middle School (high progress); Glenwood Elementary (reading growth); Mount Pilchuck Elementary (high progress).
Lakewood School District: English Crossing Elementary (math growth).
Marysville School District: Academy of Construction and Engineering (high progress); Bio Med Academy (overall excellence, high progress, extended graduation rate); Marysville Arts and Technology High School (high progress); Grove Elementary (English language acquisition).
Monroe School District: Monroe High School (math growth); Fryelands Elementary (high progress); Maltby Elementary (math growth).
Mukilteo School District: Kamiak High School (overall excellence); Mariner High School (math growth); Explorer Middle School (high progress); Harbour Pointe Middle School (high progress); Endeavour Elementary (English language acquisition); Odyssey Elementary (overall excellence, reading growth); Serene Lake Elementary (English language acquisition).
Northshore School District: Fernwood Elementary (overall excellence, reading growth); Shelton View Elementary (overall excellence, reading growth, math growth).
Snohomish School District: Glacier Peak High School (overall excellence).
Stanwood School District: Stanwood High School (high progress); Port Susan Middle School (high progress); Cedarhome Elementary (reading growth); Stanwood Elementary (high progress).
Sultan School District: Sultan Elementary (reading growth, math growth).
