MOUNT PILCHUCK — An injured hiker was rescued Saturday near Mount Pilchuck by the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office.
The man, who is in his early 20s, fell while scrambling between Mount Pilchuck and Pinnacle Lake in Mount Pilchuck State Park, according to a news release from the sheriff’s office.
While his injuries were not severe, he couldn’t walk out on foot. The hiker called 911 around noon.
The sheriff’s Helicopter Rescue Team happened to be training in the area, and quickly found the hiker, according to the release.
The man was flown to Taylor’s Landing where he was met by medical aid personnel.
The hiker was lucky to have cell reception, Search-and-Rescue Deputy Glen Bergstrom said in the release.
People going into the backcountry should not rely on cell service for emergencies. Instead, they should leave a hiking plan — including their route and itinerary — with a friend or relative, he said.
