BOTHELL — A 21-year-old man was arrested Monday in connection with abusing his infant daughter last year.
Jacob L. Tusken was booked into the Snohomish County Jail for investigation of first-degree assault of a child and first-degree criminal mistreatment.
The girl, now 13 months old, was taken into protective custody and later placed with her grandmother, Bothell police Sgt. Ken Seuberlich said. She was 4 months old when she was brought to the hospital with a severe brain injury and fractured ribs. The girl was in the hospital on life support for weeks afterward.
Tusken was arrested about 10:15 a.m. Monday after police caught up with him. They had been looking for him after building their case using search warrants, interviews and forensic evidence, Seuberlich said.
Staff at a Seattle hospital called Child Protective Services on May 29 after the girl was brought in with serious injuries.
Doctors reported last year that the girl was bleeding from the brain and likely had profound brain damage. They also found numerous fractured ribs, including breaks that were healing.
The doctors concluded that the baby’s injuries were consistent with abuse, according to a search warrant filed last year.
Tusken is expected to make a first appearance in court on Tuesday.
