EVERETT — The 102-year-old Broadway Bridge is scheduled to be closed to all traffic by the end of the day Friday.
The city is embarking on a year-long, $13.6 million project to replace the span between Hewitt Avenue and California Street. Crews are to start closing the northbound lanes of Broadway at 7 p.m. Thursday and will be finished by 5:30 a.m. Friday.
Southbound Broadway will get the same treatment Friday, with crews starting work at 7 p.m. and completely closing the bridge by 5:30 a.m. Saturday.
Traffic will being detoured around the closure to side streets east of Broadway.
Northbound traffic will loop around on Hewitt Avenue, Cedar Street and Everett Avenue. Southbound traffic will turn east on California Street, then south on Virginia Avenue, then west on Hewitt.
