Waterfront Place development project manager named

The Port of Everett has selected Brandon Whitaker to be the project manager for the new Waterfront Place Central mixed-use development on the Everett waterfront. He will manage the design and construction contracts. Whitaker, who currently serves as the Port’s environmental and safety specialist, will assume his new role in early 2015.

EdCC receives $220,000 energy efficiency grant

The Washington State Department of Commerce has announced more than $8.6 million in the second round of energy efficiency and solar grants to help five higher education institutions, 21 local governments and two state agencies lower energy costs. Edmonds Community College was one of the institutions. The school received a higher education energy efficiency award of $220,000.

Senior care business to hire 75 caregivers

The Home Instead Senior Care offices serving Snohomish County announced plans to hire nearly 75 additional caregivers next year. Potential hires could include recent graduates, out-of-work job seekers, those looking for a career change or seniors themselves. The hiring is in response to growing population of aging Americans in need of senior care.

Former school site to be sold to Bellevue company

The former Melody Hill Elementary School site in Mountlake Terrace will be sold to Devco, Inc. of Bellevue. The City of Mountlake Terrace rezoned the property from residential to commercial several years ago. The former school building was razed in 2013. Devco has proposed constructing affordable housing on the site.

Deadline extended for ‘Best Communities’ contest

Frontier Communications, DISH Network and CoBank announced the competition deadline for the America’s Best Communities contest will be extended to March 25. The competition is designed to stimulate growth and revitalization in small cities and towns across 27 states in Frontier’s footprint.
