MONROE — Drivers who use Highway 522 near here can expect less congestion starting next week.
Contractor crews plan to open two additional lanes at 5 a.m. on Monday. It marks a long-awaited milestone for the project to widen the road to a four-lane divided highway between Monroe and the Snohomish River bridge.
The new Snohomish River bridge and the 164th Street SE roundabout also open Monday. To prepare the roundabout for operation, the westbound Highway 522 ramps will be closed from 9 p.m. on Friday until 5 a.m. on Monday.
Additionally, 164th Street SE and Main Street will be closed between the existing eastbound roundabout and Fryelands Boulevard from 11 p.m. on Friday to 5 a.m. on Monday. A detour will be in place.
