BOTHELL — British beer writer and historian Ron Pattinson is to appear at a tasting of eight historical British beers at Foggy Noggin Brewing in Bothell.

The event is planned for 6-8 p.m. Nov. 15 at the breweries tasting room at 22329 53rd Ave. SE, Bothell. Cost is $30 a person and must be paid in advance. The venue only seats 20.

Pattinson is expected to talk about the significance of the eight historical beers. He’ll also touch on why beers have changed over time — whether it’s new ingredients being made available, the effect of a war, the effect of taxation or a change in preference of beer drinkers.

Foggy Noggin brewed up eight beers from recipes supplied Pattinson. The brewery chose two beers from four distinct beer styles: Scotch Ale, Russian Stout, Porter and Mild Ale. Each style is represented with beers from different periods of time.

Pattinson, who lives in Amsterdam, has spent 15 years researching beer related topics. He’s the author of several books about beer history, writes a column for Beer Advocate magazine and runs a European Beer Guide blog.
