Monroe High School has scheduled youth heart screenings from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday in the gymnasium.
The nonprofit Nick of Time Foundation is sponsoring the event for those ages 14 to 24. The suggested donation per screening is $25.
The volunteer-run event expects to have more than 100 medical professionals and others performing comprehensive physicals and, if necessary, echocardiograms on students.
Nick of Time is partnering with communities to educate people about sudden cardiac arrest in youth. According to the American Heart Association, one child in 350 may have a heart condition that can lead to sudden death. Most remain undiagnosed until they suffer cardiac arrest.
Students must complete a Heart Health Survey prior to the physical.
