SNOHOMISH —The downtown Snohomish fire station is back open after a lengthy closure.
Fire Station 41 at 427 Maple Ave. was closed in October because its roof trusses were coming apart and the ceiling was dropping, Fire Chief Ron Simmons said.
The problems were discovered during routine maintenance. The fire station was built in 1995.
The roof problems caused city officials to rule the station unsafe to occupy.
During the renovation, crews and emergency vehicles were moved to district headquarters at 1525 Avenue D.
The project was ruled an emergency, so work could get under way more quickly, Simmons said.
Loomis Construction of Snohomish, and a Seattle engineering firm, Coughlin, Porter and Lundeen, were hired to do the work. The project cost about $69,000.
The fire district commissioners are hoping insurance will cover some of the cost, Simmons said.
The Snohomish fire district serves about 27,000 people and 60 square miles around and including the city of Snohomish.
