Everett's season may be over, but some players with Silvertips ties are still going:

- Tips center Ivan Nikolishin is currently playing for Russia at the U-18 World Championships in Finland. Nikolishin has a goal and three assists in three games for the Russians, who are 1-1-1-0.

- Four players from this season finished up in the

Former Silvertip Peter Mueller is getting another shot on the international stage as today he was one of the initial 15 players selected to represent the U.S. at the 2014 IIHF World Championships. The tournament is May 9-25 in Belarus.

Mueller, who starred for Everett from 2005-07, was once the golden boy of USA Hockey. The playmaking forward was the rare player who...

Usually I conclude my season-ending blog series with a list of potential newcomers for next season, along with the qualities they could bring to the team. But this year is different because there is one name that stands above the fray.

Sure, Everett has players who we pretty much know will be added to the team next season, like defensemen Carter Cochrane and Jordan Wharrie. There's players we know will be battling for roster spots, like goaltenders Nik Amundrud and Carter...

truc-u-lent [TRUHK-yuh-luhnt] adj.
1. fierce; cruel; savagely brutal.
2. brutally harsh; vitroiolic; scathing.
3. aggressively hostile; belligerent.

Listening to Everett coach Kevin Constantine talk about hockey is often a fascinating endeavor. He's clearly someone who thinks the game. But during exit interviews, what made me smile inwardly was when Constantine pulled out a word straight...

Recently graduated Silvertips defenseman and captain Matt Pufahl said during exit meetings that he hoped to get a look by a pro team next season. Well, that opportunity has come a little earlier as Pufahl signed an ATO with the AHL's Lake Erie Monsters.

Pufahl is coming off an excellent overage season in which he had 15 goals and 35 assists in 62 games, one...

The NHL Central Scouting Service released its final rankings for the 2014 NHL draft today, and Everett had little representation. The only Silvertip to be mentioned was goaltender Austin Lotz, who was a distant 22nd among North American goaltenders.

These rankings suggest Everett likely won't have any players drafted this year. Lotz was ranked 10th among North American goalies in last year's...

Let's do a little math.

Everett scored 215 goals this season. Of those 215 …

… 47 were scored by Joshua Winquist.
… 15 were scored by Matt Pufahl.
… 15 were scored by Manraj Hayer.

That's 77 goals from graduated overagers, who won't be back next season. In addition …

… 16 were scored by Jujhar Khaira.

Khaira has already signed a contract with the NHL's Edmonton Oilers, and he's...

In February of 2013 the Silvertips declared, "Enough is enough." Everett was in the midst of its third straight eighth-place finish in the WHL's Western Conference, and the front office decided that wasn't going to happen again, issuing its famous guarantee. The Tips would finish sixth or better in the conference in 2013-14, or season ticket holders would receive a $100 credit toward the following season's tickets. It signaled a commitment to no longer settling for mediocrity. It...

In 2004-05 the Silvertips did something unprecedented in WHL history.

Everett was in its second season of existence, and the Tips' options were limited. Everett was coming off a record-breaking expansion season, but seven of those players (five graduating overagers, plus two of the team's five 19-year-olds) had to depart. Everett's system was short on players ready to fill the gaps because the team had just one bantam draft's worth of prospects eligible to play in the...

I've been known to spend a little too much time thinking about the Silvertips. In those moments after the lights go out but before I drift off to sleep, I have a tendency to ponder Everett's rosters -- those of the past, present and future. I'll think about what could have been, and what may yet be.

One of the questions that occasionally pops into my mind during those moments concerns Everett's overagers. I've had the fortune of covering the Tips since they began play in...

I'm pretty sure Everett coach Kevin Constantine doesn't give a whit about what I or any other reporter writes about him or his team. But I do know he's paying attention.

Last June during the press conference announcing Constantine's return as Everett's head coach, Constantine kind of called me out over something I wrote on my blog. The rumors had been swirling that the Tips may be bringing Constantine back. That generated a certain amount of skepticism. Throughout the...

The U.S. National Team Development Program announced its first eight commitments for next season's U-17 team, and Everett draft pick Patrick Khodorenko was on the list. Khodorenko, who hails from California and was Everett's second-round pick in the 2013 bantam draft, is an elite talent. However, he won't be joining the Tips for his 16-year-old season.

This was not...

In my position as a newspaper reporter, my job is to stick to the facts. My goal, as the beat reporter for the Everett Silvertips, is to present the news regarding the Tips as objectively as possible. I am not a fan of the team, nor am I a booster. I'm also not out to burn anyone with "gotcha" journalism. I have no agenda, and I try to do my reporting as dispassionately as possible. I try to present the facts accurately, then let the readers form the opinions.

But I'm not...

My season-ending blog series, in which I reflect on the Silvertips season that just ended and muse about the season to come, is beginning to take shape. The first installment is Thursday, and this year it will come in eight parts, with a new essay each day. Here's the schedule:

Thursday: What we saw: Overview
Friday: What we saw: Constantine returns
Saturday: What we saw: 20s
Sunday: What we saw: 16s
Monday: What will we see:...

Notes from today's Silvertips exit meetings:

- Three Everett players are heading to the AHL to complete their seasons in the professional ranks. Forwards Jujhar Khaira and Joshua Winquist are joining the Oklahoma City Barons, while defenseman Mirco Mueller is joining the Worcester Sharks. Khaira (Edmonton) and Mueller (San Jose) had already signed pro contracts with the NHL teams that drafted them. Winquist is joining the Barons after signing an...

TALKING POINTS

Everett's season came to an end tonight as the Tips were eliminated from the playoffs. Seattle ended up winning the best-of-seven series 4-1, and the T-birds will play Kelowna, the top seed in the Western Conference, in the second round.

This game was a lot like the first three games of the series through two periods, as it was close, tense and nervous. But Seattle didn't give Everett anything offensively tonight, and the T-birds scored four...

TALKING POINTS

Well, Everett needs an epic comeback to win this series, and the Tips took an emphatic first step with tonight's result. Everett has been unable to win the close ones in this series, so the Tips made sure that wasn't going to be an issue in Game 4. Seattle now holds a 3-1 lead in the best-of-seven series, which is only series still going in the Western Conference.

Jujhar Khaira was the man tonight. The big power forward has had moments where he's...

The Silvertips find themselves in the challenging position of trailing Seattle 3-0 in their best-of-seven first-round playoff series. That means Everett must win four straight to advance to the second round.

It's a gargantuan task. Just twice in WHL history has a team ever overcome a 3-0 deficit to win a seven-game series. In 1996 Spokane overcame a 3-0 deficit to beat Portland, and last year Kelowna overturned a 3-0 deficit against Seattle. Both...

TALKING POINTS

Everett is in dire straits now.

The Tips and T-birds played their third straight closely-contested game, and for the third straight time it was Seattle that came out on top. The T-birds now own a commanding 3-0 lead in the best-of-seven series. Only twice in WHL history has a team overturned a 3-0 deficit in a seven-game set. Everett is going to have to try and find a way to emulate Kelowna from last season, when the Rockets overcame a 3-0...

The game in a snapshot Allow me to relate a story from Sunday's Game 2.

Chris Mast is Everett's team photographer. He's a great guy who takes fabulous photos, and he goes way above and beyond the call of duty when shooting for the Tips.

Last season he cobbled together a goal cam. What he has is a box that holds a camera, which he affixes inside one of the goals so he can get some shots from a unique angle. The goal cam caught some...

TALKING POINTS

Another close one today, and once again it was the T-birds who prevailed to take a 2-0 series lead.

This one followed a similar pattern to Game 1, and indeed to many of Everett's games this season. The Tips had the advantage on the shot clock -- 27-16 today after it was 39-22 Saturday -- but wasn't able to turn that shot advantage into goals.

And the Tips were oh so close today. Three times Everett drew iron at opportune moments --...

TALKING POINTS

Everett coach Kevin Constantine is always stressing how a team's start is more important than it's finish. That turned out to be the case tonight. The Tips got into penalty trouble early in the game, and Seattle led 2-0 after 11:44 thanks to two power-play goals.

Everett improved from that point, outshooting Seattle 26-10 over the final two periods, including 19-4 in the second period. However, the only thing the Tips were able to produce from...

In honor of the first ever playoff series between Everett and Seattle beginning tonight, here's the closest thing to a playoff game the teams have ever contested. Indeed, this was the equivalent of a Game 7.

Everett's final game of the 2011-12 season was on March 17 at ShoWare Center, and everything was on the line. The Tips and T-birds entered the night tied for the eighth-and-final playoff berth in the Western Conference, and that night's game was essentially do-or-die,...

First off, check out the Silvertips' playoff video above.

Second, an update on Everett's players for Saturday's Game 1 in Kent. The Tips are not discussing the health situations of any of their players, including goaltender Austin Lotz and center Jujhar Khaira, neither of whom finished Sunday's season finale at Portland. But both Lotz and Khaira practiced fully Friday and appear ready to go. Winger Tyler Sandhu, who was scratched for last Sunday's...

When it comes to comebacks, I'm not sure anything can top what happened at the Everett Events Center on Dec. 9, 2006, a game that gave us two unbelievable moments from two tremendous players.

The game was dead and buried. Seattle dominated the first two periods, putting 35 shots on goal and taking a 3-0 lead. Everett, which was the top-ranked team in the CHL at the time, chipped away in the third, but...
