Snohomish man allegedly attacked ex-girlfriend before standoff

SNOHOMISH — A Snohomish man was behind bars Friday after an alleged attack on his ex-girlfriend the day before.

The 35-year-old prompted a seven-hour stand-off after he climbed a tree along 13th Street and wouldn’t come down.

Police wrote in the arrest report that the man was “high on meth” during Thursday’s incident. He is accused of assaulting the woman, who had broken up with him earlier this week.

She told police he threatened to kill her and himself and tried to smother her in front of her children, who are 1 and 6. The man is the father of the younger child, police say.

He was being held at the Snohomish County Jail for investigation of second-degree assault, domestic-violence harassment and unlawful imprisonment. At the time of the incident, he had two arrest warrants, one of which was for domestic-violence, records show.

The couple shared a home and the man was moving out. He reportedly kicked down the door to confront the woman.

At one point, he took the toddler, and the woman escaped through a window with the 6-year-old. She got to a neighbor’s house and called 911 about 4:30 a.m. Thursday.

When police arrived, the man went onto the roof and climbed a tree.

“Deputies were met with a lot (expletive) you’s,” the report says.

He came down around noon, about seven hours later. A spray from a fire hose was a factor.
