EVERETT — Naval Station Everett will close its main gate starting May 31 to build a new canopy over the sentry stations.

All vehicle traffic will be directed to the base’s north gate on 18th Street.

Pedestrian access to the main gate will not be affected by the closure, and the Visitor Control Center located outside the main gate will remain open for business on its regular schedule.

In addition, during high traffic periods between 5:30 and 8 a.m., vehicles will be allowed to exit through the main gate.

The contract for the work was awarded to National Native American Construction, based in Couer d’Alene, Idaho. The project is expected to cost $643,719 and be complete on or about Sept. 1.

Construction work is scheduled to take place between 7 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., but there may be occasional exceptions.
