HELSINKI — Nokia is back in the game.

The pared-down Finnish telecoms company, which currently focuses on networks, says it is bringing out “a new generation” of cellphones and tablets together with a new company called HMD.

Nokia said Wednesday that HMD, led by a group of former Nokia and Microsoft executives, will help it return to the wireless market globally.

Nokia will not make the phones or tablets itself. Rather, HMD will produce them under the Nokia brand. No details were disclosed on the number to be made.

Ramzi Haidamus, president of Nokia Technologies, said the new venture will allow it to “participate in one of the largest consumer electronics markets in the world.”

Nokia sold its troubled devices and services unit to Microsoft in a 5.44 billion-euro deal in 2014.
