AIRWAY HEIGHTS — The Machinists union has voted to go on strike against Triumph Composite Systems, which makes aerospace parts at a factory west of Spokane.

The strike is scheduled to begin early Wednesday morning.

The machinists rejected a contract proposal Monday, with 93 percent of the 403 members of Machinists Local 86 voting against the pact.

The Spokesman-Review says Triumph is a parts supplier for aircraft companies including Boeing and Airbus. The Machinists make floor panels and ducting systems for airplanes.

Union officials contended the three-year contract offer did not restore pension benefits, nor did it eliminate what they called a two-tier wage system that pays some employees less than others for similar work. The union also contended the offer would lead to increased health insurance costs.
