Government app gives car shoppers mileage ratings

A tool for comparing vehicles’ fuel efficiency can now travel with you when you visit dealerships.

Fueleconomy.gov, the EPA website that delivers mileage ratings and more for vehicles sold in the United States is accessible on smartphones.

A new free app features fuel economy, MSRP, annual fuel costs, greenhouse gas emissions scores and other details for vehicles back to 1984. There’s data on hybrids, plug-ins and electric vehicles, including battery range.

You can personalize estimates to match your annual miles, the your raito of city-to-highway driving, and local fuel prices.

Shoppers can save their searches and add new models by scanning the QR code from the window sticker’s fuel economy box.

Called Find-a-car, the same name as a tab on the website, the app can be tricky to find. Type the name, hyphens included, to bypass the myriad car-shopping services and get to the site.
