EVERETT — Sixteen people lost their homes Friday afternoon when a three-alarm fire ripped through a condominium complex south of Everett.
The fire broke out at the Homestead Condominiums around 1:30 p.m. in the 12900 block of 8th Avenue W, said Leslie Hynes, spokeswoman for Snohomish County Fire District 1.
Flames could be seen coming out of second and third-floor units.
No one was injured, Hynes said. Damage was estimated at $400,000.
One dog died in the fire.
It took firefighters about 40 minutes to get the flames knocked down.
The Snohomish County Chapter of the American Red Cross was asked to help those whose units were damaged to find shelter.
“Occupants in a second-floor condominium unit called 911 after a smoke alarm alerted them to the fire,” Hynes said. “An 8-year-old boy and his 14-year-old sister and her 14-year-old friend safely exited the unit.”
The fire left six units uninhabitable.
The Snohomish County Chapter of the American Red Cross is assisting residents displaced by the fire. The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Snohomish County Fire Marshal’s Office.
