Fire that destroyed $545,700 Lake Stevens house ruled an accident

LAKE STEVENS — A two-alarm house fire in Lake Stevens in December has been ruled an accident.

Investigators recently closed the case, Assistant Fire Marshal David Petersen said Friday.

The lakeside house at 1931 Vernon Road was worth approximately $545,700. It was a total loss. High winds on the night of Dec. 6 contributed to the speed of the fire as it spread, Petersen said.

Because of the extent of the damage, investigators could not pinpoint an exact cause, he said. The fire apparently started on the north side of the basement.

The blaze knocked out power to hundreds of people. A family of three also was displaced.
