Byrd to leave Everett schools

EVERETT — Tony Byrd, the associate superintendent of curriculum, assessment and special programs at Everett Public Schools, is leaving in July to become the Washington state director of Teach For America.

Byrd has been with the Everett district for three years, during which time he helped established an integrated K-12 STEM program in the district, introduced AP Capstone at all comprehensive high schools, and made computer science classes available at all high schools.

Byrd began his career as a bilingual sixth grade teacher for Teach For America at a low-income school in Pasadena, California.

He went on to earn his graduate degrees at Stanford University, and worked as a principal and assistant superintendent with Edmonds Public Schools before joining the Everett district.

Byrd will be succeeded by Peter Scott, who has been the Everett district’s assistant superintendent of teaching and learning since 2012.
