Nonprofit aims to mentor businesses in Snohomish County

The Seattle Chapter of SCORE, a nonprofit business mentor group, has initiated an outreach program that will include establishing a standalone branch in Snohomish County. Snohomish resident Jack Stiegler, a 16-year volunteer and past chapter chairman, has been appointed branch manager. The branch will offer complimentary one-on-one mentoring and training classes to potential and existing small business owners.

Workshop on workers comp planned in Everett

Business owners are invited to attend What Employers Don’t Know, a free workshop about worker’s comp premiums and safety program setup. The local event is 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Feb. 9 on the third floor of the Everett L&I Office, 729 100th Ave. SE, Everett. EdCC students travel to Washington, D.C.

The Northwest Community College Initiative took its students on an inaugural trip to the District of Columbia on Jan. 8. Edmonds Community College is part of the Northwest Community College Initiative along with Pierce College and Whatcom Community College. The trip marked the first time that all Community College Initiative participants from across the U.S. came together in one place.

Occupancy flat for Snohomish County hotels

Snohomish County hotels were flat for the month in occupancy, average daily rate and revenue per available room over the same month in 2014, according to the Smith Travel Research report for November 2015. Overall demand was up 2.4 percent while revenue saw a 2.6 percent increase. Year-to-date, demand is up just 1.9 percent while revenue is up 6.3 percent.
