Navy to conduct drill Thursday

EVERETT — Naval Station Everett is participating in a training exercise Thursday and neighborhood residents may notice a higher level of activity, including the sounds of gunfire and explosives.

The event is part of a national training exercise occurring on Navy bases throughout the country in the first two weeks of February. Everett will have exercises Thursday and then again Feb. 8.

During the training exercise, personnel will fire blank rounds, simulated explosives, and there will be a higher than normal police presence on the base. From 8:30 to 11:30 a.m., the main gate will be subject to closure. The exercise also may lead to increased traffic or delayed access to the base during that time.
