Lake Forest man arrested in 5-car wreck on I-5 in Lynnwood

LYNNWOOD — An early morning five-car crash on I-5 resulted in one man arrested for suspected driving under the influence and leaving the scene of an accident, and another person sent to the hospital with minor injuries.

A 25-year-old Lake Forest Park man was heading northbound at 2:50 a.m. when he hit two light poles on the off-ramp at 44th Avenue W, Sgt. Mark Francis of the Washington State Patrol said.

The poles fell over into the traffic lane, and the driver fled the scene.

Three other vehicles arrived shortly afterward and hit the downed poles.

In the ensuing pileup, the driver of a fifth vehicle who had pulled over to change a tire was hit by one of the cars arriving later.

That person was taken to Harborview Medical Center with what initially were thought to be serious injuries but turned out not to be, Francis said. The driver that first hit the poles was arrested in a nearby parking lot.
