Monroe woman arrested for embezzling from Park Place PTA

MONROE — A Monroe woman was arrested Thursday on allegations that she embezzled $13,227 from the parent teacher association at Park Place Middle School.

The woman, 44, was booked into the Snohomish County Jail for investigation of felony theft, according to the Monroe Police Department. She was the past treasurer for the group.

Monroe police were contacted in November, spokeswoman Debbie Willis said. The PTA disbanded in June and a new group of parents started to form a new board in October. The former treasurer reportedly would not give them the financial records, saying she couldn’t find them, Willis said.

Eventually, the bank provided documents that allegedly showed repeated withdrawals at the Quil Ceda Creek Casino during 2015. The woman reportedly admitted to having a gambling problem.
