Fire closes Everett toy store; no one hurt

EVERETT — Fire in a stock room closed the Everett Toys R Us store Friday morning.

The fire was reported around 7:30 a.m. at the toy store off Everett Mall Way.

Employees tried to put the fire out with an extinguisher but weren’t able to get it under control, Everett assistant fire marshal Eric Hicks said. The store manager cleared the store of customers.

Firefighters brought in a hose and put the fire out quickly, Hicks said.

A sprinkler system also activiated.

A Michaels store next door was closed briefly as a precaution.

The cause of the fire was under investigation Friday, Hicks said.

Large fans were being used to get smoke out of the Toys R Us so it could reopen.
