Signal timing on 88th Street NE near I-5 remains sore spot

Larry Hawk of Marysville — and a whole pack of others — wonder if changes are coming to the signal timing along 88th Street NE near I-5: “When will the city of Marysville and the Washington State DOT get their people together and figure out how to time the light westbound on 88th to get more than five cars through the light to go the reservation, or north to Mount Vernon or south the Everett?”

The Tulalip Tribes has said it plans to tackle that interchange in the future. Until then, patience may be needed.

Tom Pearce of WSDOT responds: “WSDOT has reviewed the timing, made some adjustments and will continue to monitor traffic in the area of I-5 and 88th Street Northeast. The needs of vehicles on westbound 88th need to be balanced with those of vehicles headed eastbound. Traffic in this area will always be a challenge because of the heavy volume that uses this interchange to reach nearby shopping, entertainment and residential areas.”
