Public Works director honored for Oso and salmon work

EVERETT — Snohomish County Public Works director Steve Thomsen has received statewide recognition for his leadership, professionalism and technical accomplishments.

The Washington State Chapter of the American Public Works Association honored Thomsen as one of the state’s top public works officials with its 2015 Roy Morse Award.

The award cited Thomsen’s leadership during the Oso mudslide as well as his oversight of ongoing transportation and salmon-recovery work.

Thomsen has worked the county’s Public Works Department for 30 years, the last nine as director.

The department, with about 600 employees, has received nearly three-dozen awards for innovations and excellence under Thomsen’s direction.
