LYNNWOOD — Inspirus Credit Union plans to open a Lynnwood branch to serve members who live in Snohomish and north King counties.

This will be the third branch for the credit union founded in 1936 by a Seattle math and journalism teacher. The other branches are in Seattle and Spokane.

The credit union, with 80,000 members, purchased a 27,000-square-foot building at 3405 188th St. SW, a block south of the Alderwood mall for its Lynnwood branch.

“We are here to serve our members and the education community,” said Scott Adkins, Inspirus president and CEO, in a statement. “By opening this branch, we look forward to becoming part of the Lynnwood communit, and hope to give our members another convenient location to engage with the credit union.”

The credit union plans to renovate the building in December and expects to be able to lease out office space to six tenants. Construction is expected to be complete by March.

Inspirus has $1 billion in assets. The credit union offers an education-giveback program that allows members to contribute to schools in their communities. Inspirus employees also donate upward of 800 volunteer hours a year to education causes. For more information, visit the credit union’s website at inspiruscu.org.
