GuitART auction to benefit elementary school music students

Painted guitars and ukuleles will be auctioned to support the purchase of new ukuleles for students at Mount Pilchuck Elementary School in Lake Stevens.

The “upcycled” painted instruments can be viewed from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Nov. 14 at a “GuitART” fundraiser ($15) luncheon at Buck’s American Cafe in Everett. Performing for the buffet lunch will be the wife and husband team of Beth Whitney and Aaron Fishburn, members of the local band Banner Days.

After Saturday, the painted guitars will be auctioned on eBay, closing on Thanksgiving day.

Artists who painted guitars included Jody Carlson Cain of Lake Stevens, Jackie Cort of Snohomish, Megan Eisenman of Lake Stevens, Karen Furney of Stanwood, Roxy Gelser of Everett, Ann Heisler Vautour of Achorage, Alaska, Les Milton of Seattle, Latona Minish of Snohomish, LaurieJo Moore of Marysville, Jeff Schwab of Lake Stevens and Jeanne Whitney of Snohomish. The collection includes two student pieces signed by Tim Noah.

Music teacher Mary Beth Kurtenbach said learning to play an instrument such as guitar or ukulele can be life changing for young students.
