Jury convicts man in stabbing of pizza driver in Edmonds

EVERETT — A Snohomish County jury was convinced that a homeless man nearly killed a pizza delivery driver during a botched car prowl in January.

Jurors late Thursday afternoon convicted Christopher Cowan of attempted second-degree murder, first-degree assault and robbery. He is to be sentenced next month. Cowan, who has an extensive criminal history, faces decades behind bars.

The victim, 40, was stabbed and cut after he found Cowan rummaging through his car outside a Domino’s Pizza restaurant in Edmonds. One wound was so deep the victim’s intestines were exposed.

The victim stumbled back to the restaurant, fell to the ground and applied pressure to the gaping wound in his abdomen. His coworkers called 911.

The suspect ran from the scene but left behind a hat. A police dog followed the attacker’s trail and led Edmonds officers to a witness who saw a man running through his apartment complex minutes after the stabbing. Officers also checked a nearby convenience store. Cowan had bought a roll of Mentos and left behind a pawn slip bearing his name.

Cowan was arrested a few days later. He denied stabbing anyone.
