BELLINGHAM — A boat manufacturer has secured a contract to build passenger ferry boats for service in Florida.

The Bellingham Herald reports that All American Marine was recently awarded a $5 million contract by the National Park Service. The Fairhaven boat company will construct two 150-passenger catamaran ferry boats to serve the Gulf Islands National Seashore in Florida’s Pensacola Bay area.

All American Marine president and CEO, Matt Mullett, said construction of the boats is expected to be completed in time for ferry service to begin March 2017.

The company currently has five contracts for catamaran vessels, including a research boat for the University of New Hampshire and a cruise boat for a Southern California company.
