The two candidates for Snohomish County executive are scheduled to participate in a forum at Edmonds Community College on Thursday evening.

Incumbent County Executive John Lovick and his challenger, County Council Chairman Dave Somers, will be asked to answer questions and state their positions on various issues.

The event is set to begin at 7 p.m. at the college’s Black Box Theatre in Mukilteo Hall, 20310 68th Ave. W, Lynnwood. Moderators are to include Daily Herald Publisher Josh O’Connor and editorial page editor Jon Bauer. Co-sponsors include the League of Women Voters and the American Association of University Women.

Ballots for the all-mail Nov. 3 election also are scheduled to be sent to voters Thursday by the Snohomish County Auditor’s Office.

Safety fair set: Lynnwood plans a safety fair from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at Fire Station 15, 18800 44th Ave. W. Events include demonstrations of fire dangers, fire extinguishers and the SWAT robot. More info: 425-670-5300.

Then, on Oct. 17, Daughters of Norway Thelma Lodge 26 of Everett hosts a cultural presentation from the Nordic Heritage Museum, also focusing on first-hand accounts of the World War II era. Program meeting is at 10 a.m. at Normanna Lodge, 2725 Oakes Ave.

Meeting on controversial property set: The Monroe Planning Commission is holding a public hearing at 7 p.m. Monday at City Hall. It is about a controversial proposal to amend the city’s comprehensive plan and zoning for a 43-acres property located north of U.S. 2, near the eastern part of town.
