EdCC promotes internally for VP of College Relations and Advancement

Edmonds Community College has hired Tonya Drake as the vice president for College Relations and Advancement. Drake has been serving as the interim VP for College Relations and Advancement. Prior to that, she served as the special assistant to the president for Equity and Inclusion. She has more than 20 years of experience as a higher education leader.

UW Bothell to host STEM festival

University of Washington Bothell will host the Inspire STEM Festival from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. Saturday. The festival will take place at UW Bothell and will feature hands-on workshops, guest speakers, and a street fair filled with interactive exhibits — all with a focus on getting fifth- through eighth-grade girls and boys excited about science, technology, engineering, and math.

New program recycles 422,000 flourescent lights

More than 422,000 mercury-containing fluorescent lights were collected for recycling in the first six months of 2015, according to LightRecycle Washington. Since the beginning of the year, individuals and businesses can recycle lights at no charge by dropping them off at more than 220 LightRecycle collection sites. Find a participating collection site by visiting LightRecycle.org.

Enrollment open for Columbia College

Enrollment for the October 2015 session at Columbia College — Naval Station Everett/Marysville is now open. The session is set to begin Oct. 26, but students can register through Oct. 28 for online classes. Classes will be completed in eight weeks. The campus is located at 13910 45th Ave. NE, Suite 802, Marysville.

UW Bothell to ratchet up minimum wage for workers

The University of Washington Seattle campus released a statement that, consistent with its earlier commitment to Seattle’s minimum wage law, it intends to raise the minimum wage of its workers to $13 an hour by January 2016 and $15 an hour by January 2017. This decision includes student workers. Many units on the UW Bothell campus have already been paying $13 an hour.
