QUINCY — Yahoo says it plans to double the size of its data center in the rural central Washington town of Quincy.

The Sunnyvale, California-based company said Monday that it will add about 300,000 square feet to its current facility in order to house thousands of new servers.

The company first opened its data center in 2007 in the town of about 7,300 people.

Yahoo says it decided to expand because of the area’s local talent, abundant renewable energy sources and the state’s “commitment to creating an attractive business location.

Quincy Mayor Jim Hemberry said in a statement that the move will create good paying technology jobs in Eastern Washington.

The expanded facility is expected to open next summer.
