Skagit Bank with 16 branches including one in Arlington announced on Wednesday the hiring of a new president and chief operating officer.

Ken Johnson, who has more than 30 years of banking experience, was added after a six-month senior executive search. He started on Monday.

“At Skagit Bank I see great opportunity for strong growth. Along with the board of directors, CEO Cheryl Bishop has done a tremendous job creating a solid foundation for the bank. I look forward to being a part of this great Skagit Bank team,” Johnson said in a statement.

Johnson most recently worked in Midland, Michigan, where he was Chemical Financial Corporation’s east region president overseeing 45 branch offices.

When he began at Chemical, the bank was at $2 billion in assets. In his 15 years at the bank, Johnson helped Chemical grow to $8.5 billion in assets, according to Skagit Bank.

“Ken has the experience and skill set we have been seeking. He truly understands the value of genuine, lasting relationships when it comes to our customers, employees and stockholders,” said Bishop, the CEO, in the statement.

Skagit Bank was founded in Skagit County in 1958. It has branches in Skagit, Snohomish, Whatcom and King counties.
